Insurance Coverage

  • Legally required Japanese insurance coverage included:
  • Third-party injury: Unlimited
  • Third-party property: Unlimited
  • Passenger injury: ¥5,000,000

Insurance Excess

  • The standard insurance excess payable for all accident claims is a minimum of ¥300,000 and extends up to the full cost of the vehicle's repair. (Excess Reduction Insurance is available).
  • The ERI (Excess Reduction Insurance) rate starts from ¥1,500/day (rate listed individually for each bike). This coverage limits your liability for vehicle damage to between ¥300,000 and ¥500,000.
  • ERI / PLEASE NOTE: ERI is available only for riders with 2 or more years of experience and is not available for Learner or Provisional licenses with restrictions.
  • Single bike accidents, including dropping the bike on its side, require the rider to pay for the cost of parts and labor for repair or replacement, up to the ERI coverage amount (if ERI is purchased).

Mileage

  • The mileage allowance is calculated on a daily basis, with 1,250 km serving as the base rate for a 7-day period.

  • A surcharge of ¥15 per km applies thereafter.

Tax

  • 10% 

What to Expect

Rental Shop Arrival and Departure 

At Bike Rental Japan, our English-speaking owners and staff are committed to ensuring your total satisfaction in a safe, English-friendly environment, guaranteeing you are 100% informed and understand the entire process.

Upon arrival at your allotted time slot at our rental shop, you will be greeted by one of our staff members. They will finalize any outstanding details from your online booking and complete the rental contract to get you on the bike as quickly as possible.

At this stage, we will:

  • Check your documents as you must carry your PAssport Home licence and IDP at all times 
  • prepare your final contract as per your documents 
  • Confirm that you have watched the Safe Riding in Japan video.
  • Fit you with any necessary Helmet if booked and requested.
  • Inspect the bike for any prior damage.
  • Show you how to operate its specific functions and controls.
  • Review all standard equipment provided.

We will happily answer any questions you may have about the terms, conditions, or the bike itself, and we can provide personalized route recommendations. You will also receive and confirm Bike Rental Japan’s emergency contact numbers before setting off on your adventure.

This process can take as little as 10 minutes. However, if additional details need to be finalized—such as gear fitting, adjustments, route guidance, or hints n tips about riding Japan — it may take longer. We aim to get you on your adventure as fast as possible, so please plan accordingly.

Returning the Bike

When you return the bike, unless we have prepared a self-drop-off procedure, we will meet you at your allotted time slot. We love hearing about your adventure! After a final inspection, if everything is in order, you are free to go. If you need to travel back, the train station is just minutes away, making it easy to continue your journey or return to Osaka with a life time of unforgettable memories. Please don't forget to leave us a Google review, as we love hearing about our customers' experiences and checking your photos. this greatly helps us improve and show customers what awaits the adventure.

Rquirements

License and identification

  • A valid Japanese driver’s license,
  • International Driver’s Permit (IDP), or a permit that meets our full license requirements (see here for details) is required, 
  • Credit card and your passport or resident’s card.
  • Copies of all documents will be taken for the purposes of the rental agreement and as per japanese reglatory requirements.

Experience

  • More than one year of riding experience on a motorcycle of a similar size to the one you wish to rent.

Age

  • You must be 20 years of age or older.

 Luggage

Our bikes come fitted with luggage as shown in the respective photo. If you do not see luggage attached to the bike in the photos, please ask us about available options. Note that some smaller bikes or off-road models have limited luggage capacity.

Accessories

  • Smartphone Holder: Quad Lock-compatible phone mounts are included. (We do have some regular mounts, but they are not guaranteed to be in stock.) Please bring your own Quad Lock or compatible case or sticker mount.

  • USB Power Outlet: USB power outlets are provided to charge your phone. Please bring your own USB charging cable.

  • ETC Machine: ETC (Electronic Toll Collection) machines are installed for highway travel in Japan; however, you can also pay tolls by credit card or cash. Please note: ETC card rental is not available from this store.

Safety and Support

  • Emergency Roadside Kit: Includes a security lock, an emergency puncture repair kit with a pump, and contact numbers for 24-hour emergency support.

    Tank Bag Policy

  • Unfortunately, we maintain a strict policy against the use of tank bags of any type.
  • We have experienced issues in the past where tank bags, even magnetic or strap-on designs, have caused scratching and permanent damage to the motorcycle's paint and finish. To protect the condition of our tanks, we cannot allow any customer to fit or use a tank bag during the rental period.
